Patriots Match Best Winning Streak Since Tom Brady Years with Triumph Against New York Jets
Rookie Henderson has recorded five scores during the current campaign
New England matched their longest winning run since the Brady period as they defeated division opponents the Jets 27-14 in professional football
First-year standout TreVeyon Henderson was the standout with three touchdowns as the New England squad claimed an eighth consecutive victory for the first time since legendary quarterback Brady's final season with the team in the 2019 season
Signal-caller Drake Maye accumulated 281 yards and a TD, connecting on 25 out of 34 attempts
The win bolsters the New England's lead at the summit of the AFC East as they improved to a 9-2 record, with the Jets bottom after falling to two wins and eight losses
The visitors had scored first at Foxborough with quarterback Fields scoring a five-yard touchdown to finish the Jets' initial series
But the home team answered in the second period as the rookie rushed for two short rushing scores before the running back hauled in a throw from Maye at the rear of the endzone halfway into the third period to extend the lead to 21 to 7
"That was a key occasion for him stepping up, and it's been great for him to keep gaining experience," Maye said of the rookie. "He desires to be outstanding."
Justin Fields threw to John Metchie late in the third period to narrow the deficit for the visitors but Andy Borregales booted a pair of field goals in the final period as the home side wrapped up the triumph
