19 of Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev won his first trophy for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has endured a torrid period, winning just one win at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in particular - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with his coach and Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought three-set win over Frenchman Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden title after the Italian tournament and initial on a hard court since that period of 2023.

Success also means Medvedev has secured twenty-one championships at 21 distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to win a trophy is particularly special," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had failed in his last six finals, comprising in the German tournament earlier this year.

His defensive play style and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had led some to doubt if his capacity to compete at the elite level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and perform aggressively, reinforced by an improved serve.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, winning four of the final five games to go ahead.

The competitors exchanged break points in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his initial ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to force a third set.

The opponent saved 4 early chances in a tight third set before the champion secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the win with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
